What is Bereavement Counselling?
Bereavement counselling provides a safe and confidential space to talk about loss, whether recent or from many years ago. You may be experiencing:
- Deep sadness or emotional pain
- Numbness or shock
- Anger, guilt, or confusion
- Anxiety, loneliness, or feeling overwhelmed
All of these responses are natural parts of the grieving process. Counselling recognises your individual experience and supports you without judgement or pressure.
The Importance of Being Truly Heard
Many people feel pressure to appear strong or to reassure others that they are coping. Well-meaning advice can sometimes leave you feeling unseen or alone.
In counselling, you are listened to with genuine care and understanding. You can speak openly, share memories, sit in silence, or express emotions that may feel difficult elsewhere.
Feeling truly heard can reduce isolation and gently support emotional healing.
There is No "Right Way " to Grieve
Grief is not about forgetting or letting go. Many people find comfort in maintaining a continuing bond with the person who has died through memories, values, or personal rituals.
In counselling, the person-centred approach respects whatever feels meaningful to you and trusts your inner capacity to find a way forward.
Healing does not mean returning to who you were before loss, but slowly integrating grief into your life in a manageable and compassionate way.
When Should I Seek Support for Grief?
You may benefit from bereavement counselling if:
- Grief feels overwhelming or never-ending
- You feel stuck, numb, or unable to cope
- Loss is affecting sleep, work, or relationships
- You would like a safe place to talk without burdening others
- Seeking support is not a sign of weakness. It is a step towards caring for yourself during a deeply difficult time.
Bereavement Counselling in a Safe, Supportive Space
I use the person-centred approach in my bereavement counselling, which offers warmth, understanding, and acceptance. I will support you at your own pace, exactly where you are, with respect for your unique story and experience of loss.
